Liberalism: Danger Signs
Liberalism Breeds Rampant Deception And Lies
Contributed by Brenda D. Ballard
In every form, whether political, social, or religious, liberalism is riddled with danger. “Liberalism” as used in this writing, is the attitude and practice of changing established laws, both of God and of man, from that which is moral, reasonable, and time-tested – in the case of man's laws – to ideologies that are unjust and destructive to societies and nations. In the case of God's laws, “liberalism” adds to, subtracts from, and makes changes to God's revealed and infallible instructions for our social, spiritual, and eternal survival. Much like termites gnawing away at a building’s structure, the damage is often done long before the tenants know the building is about to fall down. Liberalism undermines God, His Son, His Word – the Bible, the gospel message, His world, and the church for which Jesus died. Liberalism’s nature – invasive, destructive, and contrary to God’s word and will for His creation – requires that we think for ourselves, read for ourselves, and decide based on God’s word, not man’s.
From time’s beginning, God has known of man’s heart and base nature. He knows that liberalism breeds false doctrine and error. Peter warned of such liberalism and false teaching in II Peter 2:1: “But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.” Liberalism costs people their eternal souls.
Liberalism breeds rampant deception and lies. We see these blatant – seemingly without conscience – lies every day in our political, social, and spiritual worlds. Under the masks of relevant change, dialogue, and tolerance we see liberalism gaining more and more converts – in our homes, communities, and His church. Each of these terms – when properly and scripturally defined – is legitimate. Let’s consider how they are being redefined to suit the liberal agenda and justify numerous forms of compromise with evil. “Relevant change” is applied to the rewording and redefining of God’s plan and purpose for all mankind; discussion of evolution, worship of the earth and animals, humanism, and social blindness to evildoing. “Dialogue” is the demand for giving equal time to false teaching and the sinful preferences of our culture. “Tolerance” is accepting all sin and blending everyone’s self-driven desires, choices, and agendas into a stew of evil-smelling and sin-riddled liberalism.
Make no mistake: the liberal operative works to appear humble, pious, and genuinely concerned for the welfare of the Lord’s church and the masses. Speaking in a ‘special’ vocabulary, the liberal wins many people to his or her way of thinking while compromising the truth and undermining God’s will in all things. Jesus warned us of such people when He said, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15).
The liberal rarely starts such sinister work in a public way; he or she will first establish a core group of followers in private settings. Deception begins breeding quietly and privately by establishing the ‘new’ ideas with a few, gaining support and following. If they meet with resistance, he or she will often pull back, wait and watch for a better time and opportunity, then try again at a ‘better’ time. The pretense of a relationship with liberalism is often just a scam to get their lies and deceptions into the minds and hearts of the unaware and gullible. The liberal does not try to meet truth directly nor even attempt to make a difference of opinion in an open way. He or she comes in the ‘back door’ to lie, cheat, deceive, and destroy while the world sleeps.
Liberals promise what they cannot deliver. God – through Peter – warns us of those who spread such evil: “These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever (II Peter 2:13). Liberals and false teachers represent themselves as having clear insight, refreshing ‘change’, and are actually ‘wells without water’. Promising much, the liberal ends up being like clouds that race before the wind and send no restorative rain, just empty promises.
Liberals promise much and deliver only disappointment and God’s own condemnation.
