Democrats Staying Clear Of Town Halls
Democrats Afraid Of Voters On Obamacare Health Care
Just 17 of 58, less than a third of the elitist progressive liberal Democrat Senators are holding town halls back home. Of the 263 Democrats in the House, 91 were holding town hall meetings or any forums for voters, just over a third.
Are the elitist progressive liberal Democrats afraid of the voters? Is it because American voters know what’s in the Obamacare health care bill and they don’t? Do they not have the ethics to face the people who vote?
Freshman Representative David Wu (D-Ore.), had a fairly uneventful town hall meeting. Julia Krahe, a spokeswoman for Wu, characterized his event as “charged but quite civil” and said that the events highlighted “how much the sense of ‘too much change too quickly’ is scaring people.” And she said the congressman plans to change how he addresses the debate as a result.
Senators do not see an upside to exposing themselves to the wide-spread town hall backlash. Still, while Senate Democrats might benefit in the short term from staying away from contentious meetings and angry voters, there is some potential for that strategy to have negative consequences in the long term if their constituents perceive their absence from the debate as indifference to their concerns.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) told local media that he will not be hosting town hall meetings during August, saying, "I don't think that really serves the purpose of informing the public and answering their questions honestly.” And a spokesman for Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) said that he does not have any events scheduled, but town hall meetings could be planned.
The elitist progressive liberal Democrats are shunning the American voters. They show no concern for how voters feel. They have put themselves above Americans with the arrogant attitude they will do what they want to do with total disregard for America.
“The reality is that the politics of health care are going to collide with the politics of 2010 in a very stark way, very soon,” said Republican political consultant Phil Musser. “Obama is going to chew into the clock of 2009, and he’s going to ask members of Congress in a lot of swing districts to cast a lot of tough votes. That, for Democrats in marginal districts, represents a real conundrum.”
