Hop On The Tea Party Express America!
The Tea Party Express national bus tour will host a series of tea party rallies all across the nation. The effort will begin in California and travel eastward, building momentum as the tour reaches its final destination: the big 09.12.09 Taxpayer March on D.C.
At each stop the tour will highlight some of the worst offenders in Congress who have voted for higher spending, higher taxes, and government intervention in the lives of American families and businesses. These Members of Congress have infringed upon the freedom of the individual in this great nation, and its time for us to say: "Enough is Enough!"
The "Tea Party Express" tour will feature leaders in the anti-tax, conservative, tea party movement along with musical performances of "American Tea Party Anthem" and "A Bailout Song" at each tea party event. The tour delegation includes:
Conservative political activists associated with the so-called "Tea Party" protests have started a cross-country bus convoy dubbed the Tea Party Express. They plan to stop in 33 cities.
Tea Party Express organizer Mark Williams, also a conservative talk show host, said there is a lot of dissatisfaction in the country right now focused on issues from health care reform to the national debt.
"We figured it's about time for somebody to run to the front of the parade and say, 'Follow me,' and to try and herd all these cats into a semi-coherent message," Williams said.
As many know The tea party movement gained momentum this year; several parties were held across the country this summer to protest President Obama and the Democrats' economic stimulus plans, among other things.
According to a CNN article August 28, on July 4, nearly 2,000 advocates, toting signs and chanting slogans, rallied outside Congress. Activists said the TEA Party Day -- an acronym for "Taxed Enough Already" -- was in response to runaway government spending.
But now, the focus is on health care reform, an issue that has brought about demand for bigger, more encompassing debate throughout the country and in Congress. "What brought everything together was the Obamacare idea, which contains every odiferous objection," Tea Party Express organizer Mark Williams said Friday. "Is it health care? [Sen. Ted] Kennedy care?"
The mobile protest known as the Tea Party Express rolled into Dallas on Friday, drawing a large, sign-waving crowd for speeches decrying President Barack Obama, his health care reform effort and big government in general.
Lloyd Marcus sang for the crowd at the Tea Party Express tour's Dallas stop on Friday. Another performer, Ron Rivoli of the Rivoli Revue, estimated that 2,500 people attended the 13th stop of the tour, which ends next week in Washington. "To boil it all down, it's a government takeover that we feel is happening," said Kurt Pflieger, a Rockwall pediatrician who took the morning off to attend the rally, held in a shopping center parking lot off Addison Road.
Ron Rivoli, who as part of the Rivoli Revue performed protest songs against big government at the event, estimated attendance at 2,500.
"The crowd was really focused," said Rivoli, who is traveling with the Tea Party Express. "Everybody was on the same page. It was really cool."
Brenda Waldron of Plano carried a sign saying "Disagreeing With Obama Doesn't Make Us Racist." "I don't care if he's green with polka dots," she said. "I don't agree with the way he's facing issues."
Mike Brown, who helped organize the Dallas stop, said that beating back major health care reform was just part of the protest.
"We want big government gone," he said. "That's what the Tea Party is about."
The tour's speakers include Mark Williams, a national radio talk show host. The Dallas stop had a bit of a carnival atmosphere, with tables and tents set up to sell T-shirts, buttons, books and recordings.
If there were dissenters in the crowd, they weren't conspicuous. But nearby was Trent Bowman, and he wasn't happy.
The caravan of vehicles features two 45-foot buses along with several RVs and a contingent of SUVs and support vehicles. It will head east from California "to unify, educate, and most importantly encourage Americans to continue their opposition of deficit spending, government-run health care, and irresponsible bailouts," the group said in a statement.
The tour is being funded by Our Country Deserves Better, a conservative political action committee.
The Tea Party Express is scheduled to conclude Sept. 12 with a rally in Washington, D.C.
