It Takes Moral Courage
Morality; from where does it come?
Do humans define morality? If yes, which human(s) define it? If humans define morality, what keeps it on track and consistent from generation to generation? How does this country – you and your neighbors – see yourself and others on the morality issue?
A 2006 survey of Harvard students reported that 7 of 10 students believe in God and more than half of the students are concerned about the moral direction of this country we love. Even agnostics and atheists believe in morality; why? Interestingly (and vital to our survival), the majority of this country reports being moral and wanting a predictable and safe place in which to raise healthy, happy, godly children, yet we are in a fight for the right to uphold even the most basic of moral choices. If you doubt this, I challenge you to track current political machinations every day for 3 days – that’s all it takes – and you will see that issues of fundamental moral accountability and your rights to own, practice, and speak about them are steadily being destroyed. While a new coalition, lobby group, or collective may be overlooked in the maelstrom that is our world right now, the concepts of holding to a moral imperative will not.
Morality is defined as the “concern with the distinction between good and evil, right and wrong; choosing right or good conduct”. If people define morals, those definitions are subject to change, aren’t they? Consider the special lobby group, The Moral Majority. As long as it was making a profit and ‘seemingly’ moral leaders were in office (e.g., Jimmy Carter), it was a cause that boasted approximately 4 million people. Some opportunistic political aspirants even used this label to promote their race and platform. What’s wrong with standing on matters of morality? Nothing; if we do not choose that path, we are doomed to destruction. Yet, the Moral Majority ‘disbanded’. If this group based itself on the instruction of its proper author, would the mission upon which it was founded have been ‘disbanded’. Of course not!
Need historical evidence of the dangers in immorality? Read about the fall of Rome, the toppling of Greek, and the destruction of Germany, post WWII. The danger lies in who sets the moral standard. Even if you choose not to be ‘religious’, morality must be applied for society to work. Think about stealing for a minute. If it’s okay for me to steal from you without punishment or accountability, then it has to be okay for you to do the same to me and others. How long do you think it would take for this breakdown of basic morality to destroy you and me? One theft would likely be enough. I have heard of a group of moral-less people who decided to start a community where only liberal-minded, amoral people would be welcome. There would be no rules, no laws, no punishments; each person would define his or her own way and work out his or her own problems. While this seemed like paradise to these people tired of rules and direction, control and societal norms, it took very little time before a) no one felt their property or person was safe from harm, b) the social chaos was unbearable, and c) the little community fled itself in terror. Why? As a society, we need moral direction; life won’t work without them.
If we look to the perfect Creator of all we see, are, and will become, we will find clear moral definitions and codes by which everyone can live in harmony. For example, God defines clear conditions and processes for murder. If our society applied these principles, we would have a safe, healthy, God-fearing country that could accomplish much. God also defines human morality in matters of sex, attitude, behavior, treatment of others, choices, restoration, remuneration… the list is as long as it needs to be to help us find our way. When, however, we take our eyes off His way and believe we know what’s best, and are all we need in order to carve our own way, we end up with rampant murder of unborn children, guilt which only serves to keep people less than they can be, homosexuality, enabling destructive ways, and on and on.
Need some more proof? Barack Hussein Obama is a ‘pretender’ to the ‘throne’ of American leadership. I have spent much time researching factual information to help throw a spotlight on what is happening to the country I love. As the self-professed ‘savior’ of mankind – blasphemous on numerous levels – he has rewritten this country’s moral code. His advisers (i.e., czars) are each morally bankrupt and he insulates himself with a toxic narcissism that should terrify us all. Not a natural born citizen, never vetted, and only vaguely understood by his own party – who now admits they know him not at all – he should never have attained POTUS standing. Yet, he did. How could that have happened to us?
We lost our compass. We have forgotten the face of our God and He is allowing us to reap the harvest of such negligence. Our founding fathers remembered His face; they invoked His name in everything political and often sought His counsel for hours before Congressional sessions were begun.
Now, to the courage by which I titled this introduction; holding a moral line will require courage in this country today. Courage… from what? Fear of punishment (current punishments include fines, jail time, confiscation of property, loss of income/services/security) by a leader and his forces determined to dilute the morality upon which this country was founded. You don’t need to fashion an aluminum hat to realize that many things are at stake if we don’t find the courage to stand and fight for what God has told us is important!
Over the coming weeks, I am going to identify the problems and help define the courage it now takes to stand up for what is right. We will consider abortion, homosexuality, parental usurpation, government intrusions, property theft, murder, immoral attitudes, and much more. I will provide examples from Obama’s own words, his administration’s words, voting records of those we have hired to represent us, while paralleling them with God’s wisdom and then, I will show you how to take action without fear.
Although written concerning love during later years, I quote Robert Browning:
Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand
Who saith "A whole I planned,
Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!''
Trust God, stand up, come along with me; He will bless the efforts to fight against such evil and we will recover a country that has lost its way.
As always, I end with God’s words:
II Chronicles 7:14 says, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Always, Faithful
