Stupak Sold Out For $578 Million In Earmarks

The question has been what Stupak was going to get for selling out pro-life and America in voting for Obamacare socialized health care.  SpeakNowConservatives raised that question in ‘Bart Stupak Sells Out To Obama.’  Now we have not only that answer but he planned it all along.

The ‘Stupak 11’ pretended to hold out on Obamacare.  They with Bart Stupak as their leader put up a front that they had principles and wanted to protect the unborn.  First we heard Stupak say he had a compromise with socialist Barack Hussein Obama.  Obama was writing an executive order to prevent abortions from being covered with tax dollars.

If Stupak actually believed that story when he gave it to America would show an absolute ignorance of the Constitution and the law.  An executive order cannot override a law.  The Senate bill has very favorable abortion language.  That language overrides the ‘executive order.’

Now we know two things that hadn’t come out surfaced before.  The ‘Stupak 11’ did have a sellout price.  The ‘Stupak 11’ sellout price was $3.4 billion in earmarks.  That is an average of $314 million worth of earmark requests for each lawmaker.

Stupak requested more than $578 million in earmarks, including $125 million for a replacement lock on the Sault Ste. Marie, $25.6 million to build a federal courthouse in Marquette, Mich., $15 million to repaint the Mackinac Bridge and $800,000 to preserve the Quincy Mining Company smelter near Hancock in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

According to Taxpayers for Common Sense, in 2009, Stupak's funded earmarks--including those he requested jointly with other members--totaled $28.6 million.  Even with a newly enacted ban on earmarks to for-profit firms, Stupak requested a total of $52 million for companies in his district out of the $65.9 million he requested from the Defense Appropriations bill.
