Republicans Open The Peoples House

Unlike Pelosi Republicans Moving To Make House More Open

The American people are in charge of this country, and they deserve a Congress that acts accordingly.  The House Republicans’ transition team has as its stated goal: “to reform Congress and make it more transparent, accountable, and cost-effective.”  Efforts to open up the people’s House have already begun in earnest.

The head of the transition effort, Representative Greg Walden (R-OR), has invited Americans from all walks of life to submit ideas and share their stories at gopleader.gov/newmajority/, embracing the same spirit of citizen input that drove America Speaking Out.

Representative David Dreier (R-CA), the Ranking Republican on the Rules Committee, has pressed House officials to install cameras in the Rules panel’s hearing room, fulfilling a key plank of House Republicans’ transparency initiative.

Soon to be House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has sought out the input of reform-minded Republican governors and legislators to ensure the best ideas from outside the Beltway are making their way to Washington.  One commentator stated that this outreach is “a harbinger once again of a shift in and of power away from Washington and out of the halls of Congress and towards ideas that work in the real world…”

Republicans made a Pledge to America to lead the drive for a smaller, more accountable government that honors our Constitution and respects the will of the people.  These efforts represent first steps toward keeping that commitment.  After all, we work for the people – not the other way around.

Pelosi promised to clean up the House and made it more corrupt and unresponsive to America.  America we have to keep reminding them they represent us, not control us.  The Republicans appear to be making a good start.  It’s our responsibility to make sure the stay on the right track.
