New Mexico NO Longer A Sanctuary State

Governor Susana Martinez Issues Executive Order

On Monday Republican Governor Susana Martinez said that New Mexico is no longer a sanctuary state.  She ordered the reversal of the state's "sanctuary status," which prohibited law enforcement from asking criminal suspects about their citizenship. Now, officers will be able to ask anyone they suspect of a crime about their immigration status.

“I think this was a knee-jerk decision that was not well thought out,”  said Marcela Diaz, of Somos Un Pueblo Unido, an immigrant rights organization. “Not only will this lead to increased racial profiling, it taxes resources of limited enforcement.”

Martinez said allowing law enforcement to inquire into immigration status is a big step forward in protecting the public, but Diaz and others believe this move could create more victims.

“It's so sad that in 31 days we're already seeing some of the gains we've seen in the last 15 years being reversed based on politics,” Diaz said.

Diaz said immigrant rights activists, hoping for a reevaluation of the executive order, will be protesting the executive order.

Diaz and the immigrant rights activists ignore one vital thing.  These people are NOT immigrants they are illegal aliens.  Calling them immigrants gives them a legitimacy they do not deserve.

Secure our borders and send the illegal’s home.  If these illegal aliens want to come to America let them follow the law and do it legally.
