Atheists Don't Like The Word Heaven

A group of New York City atheists is demanding that the city remove a street.  The street sign honors seven firefighters killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.  The street, “Seven in Heaven Way,” was officially dedicated last weekend in Brooklyn outside the firehouse where the firefighters once served.

“There should be no signage or displays of religious nature in the public domain,” said Ken Bronstein, president of New York City Atheists. “It’s really insulting to us.”

David Silverman, president of American Atheists said, “All memorials for fallen heroes should celebrate the diversity of our country and should be secular in nature. These heroes might have been Jews, they might have been atheists, I don’t know but either way it’s wrong for the city to say they’re in heaven. It’s preachy.”

Bronstein says that his organization was especially concerned with the use of the word “heaven.”  “We’ve concluded as atheists there is no heaven and there’s no hell,” he said. “And it’s a totally religious statement. It’s a question of separation of church and state.”

The phrase “separation of church and state” does not exist in our founding documents.  Where in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution does it mention “the separation of church and state”?  Answer: NOWHERE.  The First Amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.”  Nowhere in the Constitution  does it say, “There should be no displays of religious nature in the public domain.”

The criticism brought condemnation from Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League.

“There’s more than a phobia about Christianity going on here,” Donohue said. “There’s a deep-seated visceral hatred of religion and particularly Christianity. That’s what’s driving this because most people who are not believers wouldn’t blink an eye at this.”

The socialist Democrats cannot push their agenda on an America with strong Christian values.  They have to destroy Christianity to move their agenda forward.  They are ruthless and will stop at nothing in their attempt to make America a socialist country.
