Michele Bachmann Wins Iowa Straw Poll
Does Bachmann Strike A Chord With America?
Saturday Michele Bachmann was the winner in Iowa's straw poll. This was a show of popularity and organizational strength for the Tea Party favorite five months before the state's caucuses kick off the GOP presidential nominating season.
Bachmann stressed faith as well as her opposition to abortion rights and gay marriage. She earned cheers when she declared: "We are going to make Barack Obama a one-term president." She invoked God and faith as she stressed what she called her conservative values, saying: "In Iowa, we are social conservatives and we will never be ashamed of being social conservatives."
Bachmann who is a Tea Party favorite with a following among evangelicals who make up the GOP base in Iowa and elsewhere — got more than 28 percent of the 17,000 votes cast in the nonbinding exercise
Texas Representative Ron Paul, who has support among libertarian-leaning voters, came in a close second. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty was looking for a strong showing to boost his struggling campaign. Sunday Pawlenty withdrew from the presidential race.
Michele Bachmann has shown that she has struck a chord with the Tea Party and with many more patriotic Americans who don't like the socialist direction Barack Obama and the Democrats have pushed American in.
People who love America understand Bachmann's message. She is a Christian who believes in and fights for a smaller government and people's rights. She hasn't won a primary yet, but she is on her way.
