Democrats Set To Destroy Medicare

One of the little known provisions in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) i.e. Obamacare is the establishment of the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPA), a panel of political appointees that has already proven to be highly controversial. The panel consists of 15 members, selected by the president to serve six year terms. Board members are charged with setting a limit on overall Medicare spending based on an arbitrary formula.

This board will wield power to limit health care treatment options for physicians across the nation beginning in 2015. The board will be mostly limited to cutting reimbursements provided to physicians who treat Medicare patients. Medicare doctors will receive lower wages despite the fact that reimbursements rates are already significantly less than commercial insurance rates and many physicians are already unable to afford serving Medicare patients.

IPAB’s recommended cuts, which will be exempt from challenges by the courts, will become law unless a supermajority in Congress vetoes IPAB’s proposal and finds a way to cut an equal amount. If IPAB materializes, it will mean Medicare has been taken out of the hands of the American people and their elected representatives.

If we allow the IPAB to continue cutting reimbursement rates for Medicare doctors, more good physicians will be forced out of Medicare and seniors will find it difficult to secure quality health care. This will mean fewer available physicians, longer wait times and an increase in more expensive emergency services.

Do you really want unelected bureaucrats making decisions regarding Medicare? This board can destroy Medicare. This is a big part of Obamacare. It is the Democrats setting up to destroy Medicare.
